Design Contest Sketches

So I've been sketching more ideas for a snowboard. There is a design competition I'm thinking of entering, and if I do I'm thinking of using this design... This is where I'm at so far.

I orginially was thinking of using my last name as the base design, then thought maybe I should use to company name that is holding the contest.

It's all a working progress but I'm getting somewhere :)

WIP: Brutus

I've been working on guy for awhile. I still think I want to put this image on a snowboard, but I am going to use the skateboard as a mock trial to see how I feel about this image and the color. Plus it'll give me an opportunity to attempt a different image from what I've been doing.

Continued sketch of Brutus:

Rough sketch of Brutus on a board:

Attempt at painting Brutus, this is only as far as I got today, and it took FOREVER. But its going somewhere I think.

Snowboard Design (continued)

So I drew up a VERY rough sketch of a potential snowboard design using my Brustus drawing. I'm thinking I want a light blue background and then have Brustus in black and white.

Before actually putting this on a board I'm going to use the original skateboard I used for Timonthy (the one I went back an spray painted blue). I'm going to use that as a mock up to see how I feel about the color palette.

Potential Snowboard Design

Started this sketch today, it is a more developed version of Brutus and so far I'm pretty happy about it. I've been thinking about getting a snowboard to paint up and I think this is the design I want.

I'm thinking of sticking with the monochromatic coloring too. Not sure yet. I still have to figure out how it would go on a board too. The bindings are going to cover parts, so I'll need to work that into the design as well. Once I know what image I want, I'll figure out working it around/ with the bindings.

Have a great night :)

Final: Jeanette II

Finished this up today! Changed somewhat compared to the original design, but I'm all around pretty happy with it. I might change a few things to it, but I kinda like the roughness of it in some places.

WIP: Jeanette II

I started Jeanette II today, and so far I'm pretty excited about it.

This is my rough sketch before applying color:

Close ups of what I've got so far:

Last bit that I have finished so far. The purple was coming up a lot lighter than I wanted, so I had to lay it on thick and a few times, so I am currently just waiting for that to dry before adding any additional shading and doing the tentacles.

New Decks!

Two things here:

1. My new blanks came today and I'm super happy about it! I've been working on a new board today that I'll be posting after this.

2. I picked up some spray Polyurethane for my board. I'm hoping that it'll protect the paint from being chipped. I went a head and sprayed both Jonathan and Eugene Decks and they look no different, so that's good. I was worried about paint running or something, but they seemed to have held up just fine.

Coming soon!

Just ordered another round of boards and I am SO excited! They should be here within the next 10 days or so, fingers crossed anyway.

Till then I need to start sketching up new ideas for the boards. I'll try and keep a posting of them :)

Final: Theodore

Finished this up late last night :) Officially out of blank boards, so when I get paid, aside from paying my cellphone bill, I will be ordering a new round of board.

WIP: Theodore

Took this photo last night, had a late night painting session and ended up finishing the board! Did not plan on that happening. I sat down sometime between 8 and 9pm and stopped around 2am. It was a needed session for sure though.

I will definitely be posting photos soon! Just need to upload and edit.

Beginning: Jeanette II

So I actually got around to doing that sketch I said I was going to do. This is Jeanette II.

With this design, I wanted to pull some kind of 1920's steampunk inspiration. The colors will be tweaked and elements will be thrown in to mix it up some.

I have yet to decide on numbering them... I plan to have different styles of Jeanette, so I should probably some how have them titled differently, or something, but I honestly do not know right now. It feels like so much to think about when it really shouldn't. I'll figure it out eventually. But for now they will just be I, II, III, etc.

I'm also thinking I might keep the theme or styles consistent in each creature's line. So there will be all the original designs, then each design will get a "1920's Steampunk" design, and each will get another theme and so on and so forth. Keeping the boards a little different, but consistent.

WIP: Theodore

Started my next board today. Unfortunately I decided to leave this board in the trunk of my car, from driving around, it was sliding around and got a little scuffed up. I've tried getting the marks off, but nothing seems to be working. So I'm going to attempt to just paint over it. Hopefully it works.

I think this might be last "new" board I make for awhile. My sister and I were talking about my board and about keeping the creatures I already have and expanding on them. Put them in new environments, give them different styles, maybe start having them interact in someway or another.

Basically, I think I want to have a line of board designs for some of my creatures. So maybe like 5 designs for Jeanette, 5 for Theodore, 5 for Eugene, etcetera, etcetera. I'll try and sketch up some ideas tonight (or at least soon) and we will see what happens.

Website + Etsy

Hey Guys!

Two things here:

1. I have a website. It is basically a layout of most my work with photos of the pieces, a little about me, and links to my blog and store.

And 2. I have a store, well an Etsy account. Decided it is time I try to start selling somethings. While I do have an emotional attachment to my work I've realized I need to branch out some and get things moving. So I've got my Etsy account up and going, I'm pretty excited about it! Anyway here are links to both my Etsy and my website. Check em' out!

Thanks!
