Beginning: Safari Tri Portrait

I have been in talks of doing a trade with a friend. I'm working on doing a set of three decks, safari themed. I have never painted a giraffe or a cheetah, but it should be fun.

Original sketch:

Whole board (not finished yet):

First off, painting a giraffe is hard. Fun, but it was definitely harder than I expected. However, I am very happy with how this has turned out.

Second, this is not finished yet. It will not be completed until all three boards are done. Plus, I want to add a few silhouetted trees in the background. I can't put those in until I have all three boards though, since the background is going to overlap from board to board.

I plan to try and sit down tonight and prep the other two boards and then work on the background for all three boards.

Final: Winged Elephant Deck

Finished this guy today. Thought about adding some kind of shading in the background but ended up deciding to leave it simple and highlighted the wings with the yellow. Overall happy with it and you will definitely see more boards coming with winged creatures like this one.

FYVE X BOARDWORLD Design Submission

So this is my snowboard design submission for FYVE and BOARDWORLD Design comp. Took what seemed like forever to get this guy going, but I am super happy with it. Not expecting to win, but the experience of doing the work was a big help for me.

I just submitted this today and I am happy with the turn out of it. May not be the best, but for someone with no graphic background I am definitely happy with it.

Final: Seymour

Finished this guy up last night and photographed it this morning. Hope you like it!

WIP: Untitled

Did the sketch for this the other night and started the wings today. Sorry the images are vertical instead of horizontal. This thing won't let me rotate them and I don't have time to fix it. Anyway, super excited about where this is going!

WIP: Seymour

Started this guy last night and somehow managed to finish it. Wasn't planning on getting that far, but I ended up just being sucked in. I'll post final photos soon! Sorry these photos are so rough, I was in my room last night with just bedroom lights.

This board, Seymour, is for a friend. We've been talking about doing some kind of trade for awhile now, and he actually asked me about the board Ripper I finished a last week. That board is for another friend, so I told him I'd make him his own. He gave me the elements and this is what came out.

Elements:
Owl, Wolf, Snake, Eye Balls, Brain, and Rafflesia

Rough sketch of painting before I began painting.

Getting to the color.

He had told me he wanted something that resembled an owl, that helped in deciding the background and form of the creature. The atmospheric space around is a little different than what I am use to doing, however, I am very happy with out it has turned out. The tree definitely looks better than I have anticipated.

Final: Alexandra

Finished this!

Beginning: Untitled

This guy does not have a name yet, but I am sooooooo excited for it. I have no idea why I was thinking lion before, I love elephants, so this will be on my next board and fingers crossed on a snowboard this winter for myself :) However, knowing myself, I'll change my mind and come up with something else I think it better. But for now, I love this guy and totally stoked so begin painting it!

WIP: I Have No Clue What I Am Doing....

I have no idea what I am doing with this... I scrapped the tentacle idea, thought about countering the lion with a female lion, but her head would have been so much smaller than his. So then I thought, "Oh! I'll use another animal!" Which turned out to be a rhino, while I like the rhino, I do not think I like the board.... So this is where I'm sitting with this board and currently not going anywhere else.

Been working on this today, coming along better than expected. Will have final pictures posted soon.

Customize a Deck!

Hey!

So normally, I design the boards myself and develop my creatures myself. Recently I have designed boards for others and allowed them to pick the elements. If you are interested in getting your own board with a design inspired by your elements of choice, feel free to contact me! This is what I'll need from you:

- Three Animal choices
- Two Human Body parts (inside or out, does not matter)
- A Plant choice
- And Time (I work full time and I get busy with things so it make so time)

We can always change the elements as well. If you are looking for something more plant based verses animal we can figure something out. Just send me an email, we can go over what you are wanting and pricing.

Thanks a bunch!

- Nat

Final: Ripper

Finished this guy last yesterday. Really happy with out it turned out, especially the background.

WIP: New Line

I am currently thinking of starting another line of boards. Same idea with the creatures, but a little different.

For starters, I plan to paint the entire base a solid color, verses letting the wood show through like I have been. I may later switch it up and have my image of top of the deck and use clear grip tape, then use some kind of brand name as the base design, but that's a whole different story.

I am hoping the images I come up with look stronger verses these light designs I've been working with.

I will explain more once I've got an image up and working.

WIP: Alexandra

Did the rough painting last night so I know where everything will go and what not. I'm actually pretty excited about this one.

(sorry for the crappy images and glares)

WIP: Brutus 2.0

Last night I decided this was finished with this, even though I wasn't happy with it. This morning I got up and photographed it, so I could post it on my site. I got to the coffee shop and decided No. I do not like the bottom half of this and I want to change it...

I have no idea what I'll do with it yet, but I love the top half. I spent too much time working on that damn top half to just let it be "okay." So this is where I am at right now, but hopefully after so time I'll find something to do with it.

The whole board:
